The Big Three

Should become the big two. Chrysler should be liquidated while trying to encourage (thru tax breaks?) new and up-and-coming auto companies to take over certain brands with the govt getting Chrysler Defense. First, Chrysler Defense is I believe profitable so that will help fund the big 3 bailout. Margins would probably increase as well since we would be buying our own stuff basically. Second this is homeland defense; Americans’ tank production should not be in the hands of a private company who is free to run it into the ground oh so elegantly.

GM has to reorganize. Their debt service doesn’t seem even remotely manageable. The US should strike a bankruptcy deal where GM and the courts proceed on their own, but with the US guaranteeing all warranty obligations. They will already have some capacity from the acquisition of Chrysler Defense.

Ford seems to be able to tread water, just barely. Govt should be ready to help them if needed, but they should continue making the changes they’ve already started.

That’s my bailout plan.

Are you serious?

So I Just today watched the Matt Lauer interview with Tom Cruise. Everything I had felt and seen to that point made me think Tom was being fake and trying to be a good star for the movie producers. I still tried to watch with an open mind and ty to see it for what it is. After watching I’d say it confirmed what I initially felt.

He lost me right when he said he separates his beliefs from everything else. As I was watching it I was trying to imagine what I would say, and it was along the lines of: what I believe colors how I think and act every moment of my life, and that should be enough. He kept saying things got misunderstood and twisted.

Is he serious? I fully understood what he meant during his last interview with Matt; I think Tom made himself quite clear.

It’s a damn shame too. I’m a bit of a WWII buff and the story behind the movie sounds really interesting. I’ll have to try to find a documentary or maybe a book featuring the real life story instead.

Here’s the interview if you haven’t seen it and would like to. The part where he lost me is around 3:20-4:20

So much to do..

This website is pretty sparse. I want to keep it simple, but just about every area still needs fleshed out or tweaked. After Monday I have 13 days off so hopefully I can get started in each area. I expect to make a lot of adjustments and edits and probably reverting a lot of the time as well, not just to the website but to my opinions as well.

Flyleaf

I was looking thru mp3s on Amazon and I came across a Halowe’en Flyleaf song. Clicking thru, I saw their single Fully Alive was on a Christian compilation.

Apparently, while not a Christian band, they are active in their faith. Pretty cool.

In my life, I’ve filed …

( ) x bug reports

This was a Slashdot poll a couple weeks ago. I’ve never filed one and the poll made me think. I’ve used open source almost exclusively for 4 years or so, and I haven’t contributed on any projects.

But in setting up the Disqus comment plugin I posted for help just before Rich sent me in the right direction. A member of their team replied to my <solved>, noting they would work on the docs. So there’s my bug report :) Makes me realize there’s lots of ways users do help devs, even if we don’t always file a bug report.

While I’m talking about Disqus, I chose it for several reasons.
First, it’s threaded.
Second, I use it when I post on another site.
Third, it allows anon posting with reasonable spam control.

Fourth, I have a budget webhost so I figure it’s best to offload as much as I can. heh.

First post

blarg.

What’s in a word. When I was setting up the WP, I had to enter a byline for the blog title or else the formatting broke for the theme I’m using. So I threw in the word blarg as filler until I completed setup.

blarg is a word I use from time to time, and this instance caused me to look up the definition just for kicks. Imagine my (non)surprise when I see Urban Dictionary’s definition fits my usage perfectly.

It also describes my previous attempts at blogging. This is probably my fourth attempt at a blog and none have yet made it past 2 posts. I think this time will be different however.

And in the spirit of the definition of blarg, I will give it my own meaning here on this blog. My blarg will be whatever thoughts, random or otherwise, that I put to print. I imagine it will be tech-poli-soci-eco(n)-nonsense ramblings and maybe more.

With that, welcome to my |home.
